Artist Boat is proud to announce that the Harris County Department of Education has chosen our Eco-Art After School Residency Program to be awarded the CASE Award of Excellence for the 2008-2009 school year. This award is in its second year and is only given to three programs annually -- a Partnership Program, a 21st Century Community Learning Center Program, and an ASI Program. It is an award that CASE takes extremely seriously as the selection process is tough.
The first step of the selection process is the nomination of a school by your CASE Program Coordinators. The next step is a vote by the entire CASE staff on the program. Only programs that are actively practicing the CASE Vision, Mission, and Values are chosen. As CASE Program Coordinators are very passionate about their regions, the advocacy for this or that program can be tough. Artist Boat's After School Residency Program was said to have risen to the top and was recognized at the CASE End of the Year Celebration on May 21, 2009.
This is the second time Artist Boat's Eco-Art Residency has received an award for after school work and the culminating public art works that follow from the students' work about our coastal environments. The first was awarded by the Southeast Educational Developmental Laboratory when the Eco-Art Residency program was one of three programs chosen nationally for filming as a best practice in after school education.
Congratulations to Lisa Reznicek, Program Coordinator, and the Artist Boat Staff who help deliver this wonderful after school program that educates communities about native flora/fauna and natural processes, while delighting the eyes! Eco-Art Residencies are delivered to students through after-school programs, summer programs, or during the school year.
