The Coastal Literacy Radio Program was created as a part of the NOAA B-WET grant. For this program, low frequency radio broadcast systems are to be installed at 7 middle school campuses that also participate in our regular workshop and adventure programming. Throughout the school year, students and teachers will work to create short (5 minute) broadcasts that focus on various topics related to the ocean environment. These provide a student driven media outlet to provide ocean messages to the school's local community of parents, neighbors and local business owners, which provides a stweardship component.
So far, 4 schools have received radio broadcast setups: Crenshaw Elementary & Middle School on Bolivar, Ambassadors Preparatory Academy in Galveston, and Clifton Middle School and Redd School in Houston. Stay tuned for more updates to these radio stations as we get broadcasts!
