Field Data Collection is an exciting addition to the eco-art adventures and eco-curriculum development at Artist Boat. Beginning in October, 2009, all eco-art kayak and vessel adventures will include water quality data collection. Through a grant from the Texas Education Agency, Artist Boat was able to acquire professional-quality equipment to measure such variables as salinity, disolved oxygen, nitrates/nitrites, and pH levels in each of our water-based adventure sites.
Students participating in vessel trips will observe and record "Diversity Catch" data, a sampling of invertebrates, fish, and plankton.
We will continuously update the Field Data Collection pages on this website to make the most current information available to the public and educators. This information will be a teaching tool in classrooms to illustrate seasonal variability in Galveston Bay. Teachers are encouraged to utilize the information to teach students about graphing, data analysis, and forming conclusions about Galveston Bay's abiotic and biotic factors.
