Artist Boat will be honoring the Honorable Lyda Ann Thomas and her daughter Eliza Quigley for their commitment to nature, education, and the arts at Float the Boat this year. Their service to the Galveston community is widely known. Their commitment to the mission and goals of Artist Boat is immense as we embark on preserving lands through a Coastal Heritage Preserve and a large vision for a Gulf Coast Environmental Education Center to serve our Greater Houston-Galveston Region.
Artist Boat's mission is to promote awareness and preservation of coastal margins and the marine environment through the disciplines of the sciences and the arts. Each year Artist Boat provides art and nature education classes to 10,000+ students and adults in the 5-county area. Recently Artist Boat has begun the process of acquiring land on the barrier island of Galveston. This land exemplifies the natural heritage of the Gulf coast and is considered naturally significant by many stakeholders in our region.
