Artist Boat Director of Education, Rani Henderson, led an after-school residency program at the MD Anderson YMCA that allowed students to follow the cycles and processes of the ocean and the ways they interconnect. The students were engaged in a series of 13 science lessons to fully study the ocean and its life, as well as 13 art lessons to work as naturalists.
Students then used their knowledge of the ocean to create hand built clay pieces illustrating the ocean's life. Accompanying pieces were built by the Artist Boat to fully illustrate the oceanic processes. All of these pieces were then used to create the mosaic, which was installed at the MD Anderson YMCA. The project was funded through the Harris County Department of Education Cooperative for After School Enrichment After School Initiative.

In addition, Artist Boat Director of Education, Rani Henderson, and Educator Devin Taylor aided students in creating mosaic columns which can now be found throughout the landscaping of the MD Anderson YMCA. The project, which was funded through the Harris County Department of Education Cooperative for After School Enrichment After School Initiative, enabled students to learn fundamental core values such as the importance of caring for others, as well as respect for Earth and its inhabitants. Below are photographs of the mosaic columns.
