We Back The Bay!
Improving water quality one campus at a time
We Back The Bay!
Artist Boat’s “We Back the Bay” program allows students and teachers in the counties surrounding Galveston Bay to create learning legacies on their school campus that will improve the water quality of Galveston Bay. The program will build awareness of the causes and consequences of poor water quality in Galveston Bay, develop critical thinking skills necessary to mitigate pollution of the Bay, and create action to increase water conservation and reduce storm run-off from school campuses. The Program consists of the following components:
- Professional Development workshop (3 days) for chosen teachers
- Artist Boat Eco-Art Workshop (5, 2-hour workshops for chosen campuses)
- Artist Boat Eco-Art Adventure (5, 4-hour adventures for chosen campuses)
- Mini-Grant for the Planning and Development of a WaterSmart Landscape for chosen campuses
The “We Back the Bay” program will serve 5 schools from the counties surrounding Galveston Bay (Galveston, Harris, Brazoria, Chambers, Liberty, and Fort Bend). Only one campus per district, charter or private school can be accepted to the program. The program is open to 6th-12th grade teachers, with preference given to 6th-8th grade. Schools will be chosen based on applications submitted by teachers from the schools.
