Bucket Brigade Lead Interpreter
Part-Time Temporary Hourly Position
Artist Boat is seeking a motivated, creative, and self-starting TAMUG student with a Marine Science/Biology background to deliver Bucket Brigade programs to beach-goers in Galveston between Memorial and Labor Day Weekends.
Job Description: Primary duty is to lead Bucket Brigade interpretive programming for the public at Stewart Beach. These interpretive programs will focus on educating the public about Galveston Island beach processes, the roles of sargassum and water quality, and human impacts on this environment. Lead Interpreters will also help to instruct and guide the rest of our volunteer interpreters. In completing their duties, Lead Interpreters will be able to clearly and enthusiastically:
- Work with team members and volunteers in a professional and positive manner in the field, office, and via technology;
- Present science skills and knowledge to beach visitors of all ages in order to facilitate understanding of the role of water quality and sargassum in our marine and coastal ecosystem;
- Actively engage persons of all ages in a positive, professional, encouraging, and informative manner;
- Spend 6-8 hours per day outside on a regular basis;
- Be available to work weekends, including holidays between May and August 2019; typically work 5 days/week
- Enthusiastically learn, acquire, and research knowledge about native flora, fauna, and ecosystems in order to properly identify species and assist in interpretation of habitats;
- Enthusiastically learn, acquire, and research new knowledge and tools with regards to ocean science and literacy;
- Be flexible and able to improvise with different outdoor conditions, audiences, and sargassum landings;
- Represent the program in conjunction with Artist Boat and the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees during events and in the community;
- Other possible duties as assigned.
Preference for job:
Applicant to be a current student at Texas A&M University at Galveston pursuing a degree in Marine Science/Biology, Ocean and Coastal Resources, or a related program.
Salary: $10.00/hour
