Join Artist Boat for this unique creative experience as you learn from experienced Nature Journalist and Biologist, Irmi Willcockson. Each session will take place at a different location on the Coastal Heritage Preserve allowing you to observe and capture nature within the wilds of Galveston Island’s West End. You will have the Preserve to yourselves as it is the only activity for guided education.
Nature Journaling deepens one’s connection to nature and to oneself. Explore this practice through four 2-hour guided sessions with instructor Irmi Willcockson. After an introduction to nature journaling, you will explore different tools and methods each week enjoying a different Artist Boat protected ecosystem weekly.
No prior art experience required.
All materials will be provided. Materials will included a sketchbook, watercolor painting tools, paint palette, and other that will become yours forever.
Irmi Willcockson
Irmi Willcockson began her nature journaling practice in 2019 and is an active member of the nature journaling community.
In addition to her regular journal, Irmi keeps a perpetual journal. She strives for 2-3 entries per week, using a mixture of pictures, numbers, and words.
She has attended numerous workshops to learn the practice and has also given workshops to various adult groups including garden clubs, Texas Master Naturalists, and church groups. One of her favorite quotes comes from Mary Oliver’s: “Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.”
After taking a book binding class, Irmi continues to bind her own journals and have bound journals for others.
Irmi’s formal education includes a BS in Biology from University of California and a PhD in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics. She also participates in the Houston Nature Journaling Club.
