Artist Boat has weathered storms both literal and financial to protect the wild heart of Galveston Island. Since 2008, we’ve grown the Coastal Heritage Preserve to 1,039 acres — resilient lands that absorb storm surge, shelter endangered species, and host thousands of students who learn science and art in living classrooms.
We are now in the most decisive chapter yet. To finish what we started, we must secure 204 more acres — the big link in a three-mile interior relic dune/swale corridor and shoreline system. With these acquisitions, the Preserve will grow to 1,243 acres, achieving 88% of our 1,400-acre goal. What happens in the next 16 months will define whether Galveston gains this legacy forever or loses it to development.
